Sankla Renewables signs ₹15,000 crore SAF memorandum with Maharashtra.
Press release
Sankla Buildcoon, through its associate clean-energy platform Sankla Renewables, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Maharashtra to develop a ₹15,000 crore Sustainable Aviation Fuel manufacturing project at Chalisgaon, Jalgaon district, Maharashtra.
The memorandum was formalised at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, reinforcing Maharashtra's positioning as a destination for large-scale, transition-aligned industrial investment. For the Sankla group, it marks a strategic expansion from real estate-led value creation into long-duration, infrastructure-grade clean energy assets.
The project
The proposed facility will convert agricultural residue — including sugarcane bagasse, cotton stalks, soybean husk and pigeon pea waste — into aviation-grade sustainable fuel using internationally certified conversion technologies. Chalisgaon was selected on the strength of its feedstock catchment and logistics position. The project is structured for phased commissioning through 2029, enabling capital-efficient deployment and risk-managed scale-up.
Economic and social participation
The initiative is expected to support over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs. Beyond emissions reduction, it is designed to create a formal market for agricultural residue in the surrounding districts, with long-term feedstock procurement contracts giving farming households an income stream for material that is frequently burned today. Structured skill development programmes are planned in partnership with local institutions.
Alignment with national objectives
The project supports national objectives on energy security, import substitution and aviation decarbonisation, while contributing to state-level industrial growth priorities. It is being designed to meet global environmental and sustainability benchmarks.
